On Day 3 of the CALPRO PLC Institute, Martha and Mandi will present “NMUSD Adult School ~ Getting to Common Formative Assessments.”  The purpose is to show one adult school’s step-by-step progression towards creating common formative assessments:

  1. Selecting and unwrapping essential standards
  2. Deciding on learner outcomes
  3. Selecting research-based instructional practices
  4. Applying research-based instructional practices to needs and abilities of students
  5. Using agreed upon strategies
  6. Identifying best practices
  7. Using common formative assessments to monitor student progress
  8. Analyzing data to inform instruction
  9. Creating systematic intervention
  10. Reflecting and evolving.

Tonight and tomorrow I will give a 15-minute Persistence Presentation to each ESL class at the BESST Center.

The presentation objectives are:

  1. increase attendance during these ADA-lean winter months
  2. stress the importance of persistence and goal attainment
  3. show how attendance & persistence directly impact our program
  4. inform students of  the many learning opportunities at NMUSD Adult School

Check out CALPRO’s 2009 Online Professional Development Courses. 

For these courses, all you need to get started is an e-mail address, an Internet connection, and a few hours a week for study, scheduled at your own convenience.  Besides getting to exchange ideas with colleagues in the course, participants may also register for Continuing Education Units (CEUs).  Enrollment is limited to 20 participants per course, and is on a first-registered, first-enrolled basis.
